Life, just like your wedding, is all about creating memories through experiences. Being the male half of Yellow Umbrella Events, I feel like it’s my responsibility to help couples inject some memorable “masculine” experiences into their wedding. I do this during the wedding planning process by suggesting fun and unique manly touches that can be included for the groom and groomsmen. We all know that the “Big Day” is all too often focused on women, but this does not mean that the men should be left out. So today, under the guise of research and armed with a two day old beard, I decided to create my own memories and get a long overdue straight razor shave from Finley’s Barber Shop.

Finley’s Barber Shop has two locations, one in Lakeway and the other in Westlake. My appointment was at the Westlake location. Upon entering, I received a warm greeting from Jes at the front desk. After confirming my appointment, Jes promptly offered me a drink of my choice while leading me to a sitting area where I relaxed in a leather chair and watched the flat screen TV before my shave. Normally, on a Thursday at 11:00 am, I would stick with water or soda but this appointment was strictly for research so I chose to have a beer. Don’t judge me! I only chose the beer, a locally brewed Fireman’s #4, because it is my responsibility as a vital member of Yellow Umbrella Events to experience all aspects of each activity before I can, in good conscience, suggest this as an option to our couples. I love research!
Hot Towel Wrap
I won’t go into the exact details of the “perfect eight-step straight razor shave” that Jamika, my barber, performed on me other than to say it was definitely unforgettable! The shave only took about 45 minutes but I soooo wanted it to last longer. All I remember is the warm cream being applied, the sounds of a perfectly sharpened razor gliding across my cheek and the scented hot towels wrapped around my freshly shaven face. While relaxing in the reclined leather chair, I came to the conclusion that this is an experience I want to enjoy more often and one I will definitely recommend to our grooms.

The whole atmosphere at Finley’s Barber Shop is warm and friendly with a modern touch on the classic barber shop. Not all barber shops offer straight razor shaves and fewer still can give you the experience I had at Finley’s. As I was leaving I felt like a modern Southern Gentleman with two things on my mind, I can’t wait for my wife to feel my face and when can I make my next appointment!
