  • Exceptional Food & Cocktails – Your guests won’t be stuck with standard buffet fare, and the food is not the typical bland and boring food you’ll find at most all-inclusive resorts. How far in advance do we need to book our wedding?

What is the booking process for a wedding at Unico?

The Yellow Umbrella Events team will walk you through every step of the process, and here is an overview of what that would be:

  1. Initial Inquiry
  • Contact the Yellow Umbrella Events team: We love to start with an initial phone call to help answer all of your wedding questions.
  1. Select a Wedding Package
  • Explore Package Options: UNICO offers various wedding packages tailored to different décor preferences and budgets. When requesting your wedding date, you will be asked to start by selecting a package that you would prefer. You can always choose the complimentary package and upgrade to one of their other wedding packages later.
  1. Reserve Your Date
  • Secure Your Preferred Date: Our team will confirm and reserve your desired wedding date. You’ll receive an email confirming your wedding date request and indicating that your date is currently on hold.
  1. Contract Deposit
  • Formalize the Agreement: You’ll receive your wedding date contract outlining the terms and conditions within a few days. You will digitally sign the wedding date contract and make the deposit payment through the resort’s payment link at that time.
  1. Room Block Preparation

Collaborate with our team to set up a room block contract for your guests. Your room block reserves a set number of rooms at a guaranteed rate for your guests. It includes details on deposit requirements, payment deadlines, and cancellation policies and includes perks based on the number of rooms

Does Unico include all the vendors we’ll need for our wedding day?

Yes, the resort has all of the in-house vendors you could possibly desire for your wedding day.

unico 2087 yellow umbrella events

What if we don’t want to use the in-house vendors that Unico requires?

Unico 2087 does require the usage of their in-house preferred vendors or an outside vendor fee of $1,500 will be charged per vendor per service.

Is there any way the vendor fee could be waived?

The only way to waive the outside vendor fee is to host the vendors in your room block for a minimum three-night stay. However, even if they are guests in your room block, you will still be charged a $1,500 supervision and electrical usage fee for all audiovisual and décor services.

Can we bring our own decor?

Yes – and no. Click here for a list of what you are allowed to bring to your wedding and what the resort does not allow.

If we prefer a certain venue, is it guaranteed to be available on our wedding day?

Option 1: Guaranteed Venues

Select venues can be guaranteed at the time of booking or during the planning process. A minimum guest count may be required to guarantee certain venues:

  • A deposit towards your wedding package of $50 per anticipated guest attending is required to guarantee a venue. This amount is non-refundable but will be added to the couple’s wedding invoice.
  • A separate deposit will be required to guarantee the venue for each event (i.e., the ceremony venue is separate from the reception venue).
  • If the projected guest count drops more than 20%, the guarantee is void, and the venue is subject to change.
  • Locations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Venues are not guaranteed until the deposit is received.

Option 2: Non-guaranteed venues

  • Venues confirmed 30 days prior to the wedding date
  • No additional deposit is required
  • Locations are confirmed based on group size and availability

How to secure your preferred venue with the deposit:

  • Once you’ve made your initial $600 deposit to hold your wedding date, you’ll contact weddings@aichotelgroup.com to request the specific venue you’d prefer, and they will work with you to finalize the request and make the additional deposit.

Is there a discounted room rate for our guests?

Not usually. Sometimes the room rate may be a few dollars less but the resort typically just stops the rate where it is when you begin your room block and that rate is locked in for your guests up until approximately 5 – 6 months prior to the wedding. However, room blocks at Unico 2087 come with fantastic perks like the potential to earn free rooms, a room upgrade, and even free reception hours.

What are the benefits of contracting a room block at Unico?

    • Complimentary Rooms: The current promotion is one complimentary room for every 12 – 16 rooms (varies by season) paid in your room block, with up to four total rooms earned.
    • One Complimentary Room Upgrade
    • Free private event hours that you can use for your dinner reception, as follows:
      • 10 – 19 Rooms = Two Hour Dinner Reception
      • 20 – 29 Rooms = Four Hour Dinner Reception
      • 30 – 49 Rooms = (Two) Three-Hour Dinner Receptions (to be used on two separate days)
      • 50 – 89 Rooms = (Two) Four-Hour Dinner Receptions (to be used on two separate days)
      • 90+ Rooms = (Two) Five-Hour Dinner Receptions (to be used on two separate days)

Only rooms and room nights booked and paid through your unique booking link and staying for a minimum of three nights will qualify for earned complimentary rooms, room upgrades, and/or complimentary event hours.

Are we required to contract a Wedding Room Block?

No, but if you do not book a wedding room block, you will not receive any of the wedding benefits, which could be a loss of several thousand dollars in savings and perks.

How do we and our guests book rooms for our wedding?

Once your room block is finalized our team will set up a custom link for you and your guests. Here’s a sample link – https://www.yellowumbrellaevents.com/events/ariana-and-ryan/

What room types are available at Unico?

Click here for all the room category types and descriptions.

Do all our guests have to stay at the hotel to be able to come to our wedding?

Unico requires  at least 80% of your guest count be booked at the resort for a 3 night minimum.

What are the Wedding Day Pass prices for guests not staying at the resort?

The resort charges a $192 fee per person for all guests that do not stay at the resort. The guest will have access from 1 hour before the ceremony and until the wedding activities have ended.

All on site guests must book through the same source (your personal room block link) to count towards your wedding group benefits. Any guest that books outside of your booking source will incur a $100 per person per event fee which will be charged to your wedding invoice.

Is there a discounted room rate if we want to visit Unico to decide if this is where we want to host our wedding?

UNICO does not offer discounted room rates for pre-wedding resort stays. However, there is a program where a portion of the room rate you paid for your site visit can be credited towards your wedding extras if you end up with 25+ rooms or 75+ rooming nights paid in your room block.

What time do outside receptions and events need to end?

All outdoor event sound/music must end by 10:30pm. Indoor ballroom events do not have a required end time. However, if your wedding date is between May 1st – December 9th, your wedding is during Turtle Nesting Season and by law all events on the beach must end by 7:00PM. For this reason, we recommend that weddings from May 1st – December 9th choose a location other than the beach for their cocktail hour and reception.

Is there a place on site for an after-party?

UNICO 20°87° does not have a traditional nightclub. However, the resort offers a lively evening atmosphere with entertainment, live music, and DJs in their main lobby bar (Bar Balam) and at the Palmera Lounge, which has a speakeasy vibe with cocktails and music. There are also occasional themed parties and events that provide a fun nightlife experience.

Guests looking for a true full nightclub experience may need to visit nearby Playa del Carmen or Tulum nightlife spots.

Is there a bridal suite available?

The Essencia Spa offers hair and makeup services both in-room and in the salon. However, there is no dedicated bridal suite. The Essencia Suite makes a great “get ready” space as there’s plenty of room, so some of our couples prefer to upgrade to this suite.

Does Unico offer same-sex weddings?

Absolutely.

Is there a Catholic chapel on site?

No, there is no Catholic Chapel at the resort.

Can you tell me about the included wedding cake?

The complimentary wedding cake that is included in the wedding packages is a basic one tier wedding cake with the following flavor options:

  • Vanilla cake with Chocolate
  • Vanilla cake with Strawberries
  • Chocolate cake
  • Carrot cake

Are children allowed at the resort for the wedding ceremony and reception?

Children under 18 are not allowed at the resort, even for weddings.

How many event sites can we choose for our wedding?

You can choose up to two locations – one for your ceremony and one for your combined cocktail and reception event. There is an additional event fee if your cocktail hour location and reception are held in different locations.

How far in advance do we need to arrive at the resort before the wedding day?

You must arrive at the Resort no later than 2 business days (Monday – Friday) prior to the ceremony.  Arrival must be by Noon in order for the day of arrival to count as a business day prior.

What are the requirements for a civil/legal ceremony versus a symbolic ceremony?

For a Civil/Legal Ceremony, the couple must arrive at the resort at least three business days (Monday–Friday) before the wedding day.

To count as a full business day, arrival must be before noon.

These days are required to complete legal procedures, including submitting documentation, obtaining a marriage license, and, in some locations, undergoing mandatory blood tests.

Can we bring our dog/pet?

UNICO is not a pet-friendly resort. However, guests traveling with a true service dog will need to reach out to the on-site Guest Experience team – guestexperience@unicohotelrm.com – prior to arrival to complete the approval process.

How many restaurants does Unico 2087 have?

UNICO 20°87° offers a diverse culinary experience with five distinct dining venues:

Mi Carisa: Specializes in coastal Italian cuisine, featuring a wood-burning oven that imparts a smoky flavor to its dishes.

Cueva Siete: Celebrates Yucatecan culture with a menu deeply rooted in Mexican traditions and flavors.

Mura House: Offers a blend of Asian flavors, focusing on Japanese culinary styles such as teppanyaki, yakitori, and sushi.

20°87° Restaurant: This restaurant transforms throughout the day, serving an à la carte breakfast, a lunch buffet, and an evening grill with premium steaks and seafood.

Café Inez: Emulates European café culture, offering morning coffees and pastries, as well as afternoon sandwiches, paninis, and salads.

CLICK HERE for more details on the restaurants and their menus.

Will we have a dedicated wedding specialist?

Yes, UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya provides onsite wedding specialists who will be available to assist you throughout your stay. They will help with final details, coordination, and ensuring everything runs smoothly on your wedding day.

What are the policies regarding outside vendors?

Before hiring and depositing with an outside vendor, you will need to provide the company name of the vendor being considered prior to contracting them since the resort has some outside vendors that are not authorized to be on the property. A third-party vendor fee of $1,500.00 USD will apply per outside vendor per day who is hired by the couple and not contracted by the hotel as a preferred vendor.  The fee will apply per service per day if a vendor provides multiple services. Each vendor staff member needing access to setup is required to purchase a vendor pass. Vendor Passes only allow each person to arrive an hour before the event, so they will need to purchase an ALL DAY PASS if they require additional time. A $1,500 Vendor Supervision Fee and $500,000 Insurance Policy will be required for any third-party vendor needing to carry out audiovisual work, bringing their own DJ equipment, requiring electricity, using a ladder, or installing heavy-duty materials (trussing structures, tents, installing draping, etc)..

Additionally, all outside local vendors are required to have a valid REPSE registration form that must be presented prior to arrival to have access to the property and allow them to work inside the facilities, in addition to the fee that must be covered to allow external suppliers to work in the hotel. If you have any additional questions about any of this, it’s best to review it with your assigned UNICO wedding coordinator.

Are there any hidden fees we should be aware of?

It’s not a hidden fee, but it’s often a surprise to couples – and that is event lighting. None of the outdoor event spaces include lighting, so if your reception is outdoors after the sun sets, you will be in the dark unless you pay for additional overhead lighting, like string lights.

Again, it is not a hidden fee because it’s clearly listed in the wedding contract, but couples who book several outside vendors are often shocked by how fast the outside vendor fees can add up. For example, if you hire an outside photographer and videographer, even if they are with the same company, the resort charges two outside vendor fees, since this fee is charge PER vendor PER service + it only covers one person from each vendor and each additional team member must purchase a day pass of $192 per person. So, if your photo and video team consists of six total team members, the total outside vendor cost would be $3,768.
