When it comes to planning a destination wedding in Mexico, timing isn’t just about your wedding day plans. It’s also about when you book it. Spoiler: Avoid booking during the prime wedding season.
Every year, we witness what we call “the rush”, a surge of couples who wait until wedding season officially kicks off before securing their resorts, dates, and room block contracts. And you know what happens? The best dates are already gone by then, response times from resorts slow to a snail’s pace, and some of our couples end up settling for something that wasn’t even close to their first choice. Avoiding this rush will bring you a sense of relief and ensure you get what you truly desire for your special day.
When exactly does the wedding booking season start? For Mexico destination weddings at all-inclusive resorts, we typically see a surge in call volume, email requests, and website searches the week prior to Thanksgiving, and from that point forward, our team barely gets a breather until mid to late March. This is also the time that the resorts see the highest number of bookings. During these months, the resort teams are at their most stressed and have the least availability for answering calls and emails. Plus, December and January are the months when most of the resorts’ in-house teams (like the wedding and room block departments) take their vacations, adding another layer of fun.
Let’s talk about why booking early – before all the wedding season madness – will save you so much stress and help put you in a better situation to secure your dream date and room rates.
You’ll Beat the Rush
It’s helpful to think of popular destination wedding dates like concert tickets. If you don’t grab them quickly, someone else will. October, November, and early Spring dates, such as February through May, are hands down the most requested months for Mexico weddings, with November, March, and April being the months with the most destination weddings at Mexico all-inclusive resorts. Why? Near-perfect weather, unlikely chance of hurricanes, and cooler temperatures can be found in those months. The resorts are aware of this, and so are other couples.
When you book before the floodgates open, you’re not just first in line to snag the dates everyone else will be fighting over later; you get there before the line even starts.
You Get Your First Choice of Dates
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes truth – resort wedding departments get slammed during busy season. I’m talking many days (or even a couple of weeks) of waiting for a simple email reply from some of these resorts. However, when you reach out before the rush, you receive faster answers and better attention from the resort staff. Resorts aren’t buried under hundreds of requests yet, so you and your wedding get the focus you deserve.

You Will Usually Get Better Wedding Package Rates
Whether coincidence or strategy, and we will let you be the judge of that, most of the resorts increase their wedding package prices right before the traditional wedding booking season begins, so we usually see wedding package rates for the next year increase in the fall. So, snagging a date before the height of booking season will typically give you a slightly lower rate on the next season’s wedding packages and even room block pricing, in many cases, since resorts tend to increase room rates quarterly or more throughout the year.
Your Guests Will Thank You
Booking early doesn’t just benefit you. It helps your guests, too. The earlier you lock things in, the earlier they can request time off, budget for the trip, secure childcare, and get the best flight options. Waiting until prime season only makes things more complicated for everyone.
The Yellow Umbrella Events Take
We’ve seen couples wait until the “perfect time” to start planning, according to The Knot or whatever source is guiding them, only to find out their dream date was taken by someone who booked months earlier. (The Knot’s planning schedule does NOT work for Mexico destination weddings, by the way.)
Just like in real estate – if you see your dream house, you don’t wait around until “house-buying season” or whenever Zillow tells you it’s the right time to buy. You grab it. Booking before wedding season is one of the smartest decisions you can make for your destination wedding in Mexico. It’s less stressful, more strategic, and makes it more likely that you’ll be celebrating on the date you actually want and not just the one that’s left over.
